How Five Iron Golf Amazed Guests at Its New York Grand Opening

Our client Five Iron Golf used New York Magicians by See Magic Live to amaze guests at the grand opening of their new Flatiron flagship, and we’re sharing how the night came together.

What guests saw on opening night

On September 30, about 150 guests filled the new space for a three-hour party, with several activations running at once. Tom Gibney spent the full three hours with them, performing close-up magic for small groups wherever they gathered and following the crowd from one part of the space to the next.

One guest found a playing card under his own watch. The host told Tom that another guest kept talking about a trick she couldn’t figure out. After the party, the host told us, “Tom was fantastic!”

How we prepared for the opening

Five Iron Golf reached out a few weeks before the opening, and we replied within ten minutes. We started by interviewing them about the night: how many guests to expect, what else would be happening in the space, and what they wanted guests to leave with. Their main goal was for every guest to see what the new space offered besides golf.

Based on that, we recommended interactive close-up magic, which let Tom move with guests through the space as they explored it. For this party, we matched Five Iron Golf with Tom, who consulted on David Blaine Presents: Asi Wind’s Inner Circle and has performed for TED head Chris Anderson and a former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. A flagship opening called for a magician who is comfortable in front of an important audience, and Tom’s experience with high-profile guests made him the right fit.
